A Tour of VICE’s New Sleek Toronto Office

VICE, a popular youth media company that specializes in creating, distributing, and monetizing original content, recently opened a new, 24,500-square-foot office in Toronto, Canada.

The space reflects the brand’s irreverent approach, breaking many of the rules common in this era of slides and cereal bars. Instead of wholesome snacks and cheery spaces, Vice has a fully stocked saloon and an area called the Bear Room that has the look and feel of a classic cigar lounge (oxblood-coloured wall, included). The materiality amplifies the throwback to a more casual era in office culture: the saloon’s table tops are made of porous marble to stain as bourbon is spilled; the bar is soft zinc that will scratch and ding over team. Underpinning the playfulness is a stealth integration of technology that enables Vice to produce its multi-platform content (print, digital and TV). The whole space is optimized for film-quality sound and lighting, including the kitchen, so that any moments caught on camera will be best possible quality.

  • Location: Liberty Village – Toronto, Canada
  • Date completed: 2016
  • Size: 24,500 square feet
