A Tour of Kairos’ New Toronto Coworking Space
Coworking space provider Kairos hired workplace design firm figure3 to design their new space in Toronto, Canada.
“From the outset, the design team immersed themselves in Liberty Village. The neighbourhood’s rhythm of startups, creatives, and growing businesses became a foundation for the interior experience. User personas shaped the flow of the plan, while research into coworking models across North America highlighted opportunities to elevate acoustic comfort, spatial choice, and the level of service offered. Kairos was envisioned as a refined, high-performance coworking destination rooted in the culture of its location.
Arrival sets the tone. A concierge-style reception greets tenants and guests with a hospitality mindset that extends through the entire space. Materials such as walnut and oak woods, rich oxblood accents, and traditional detailing are set against exposed brick, a nod to Liberty Village’s historic exteriors, to establish an environment that feels both sophisticated and approachable. Biophilic planting and natural textures soften the architecture, creating a sense of calm that carries throughout.
The workplace unfolds as a series of interconnected moments rather than a predictable grid. Circulation is intentionally intuitive, avoiding long, empty corridors in favour of dynamic, engaging spaces that feel active and welcoming. Private offices line the perimeter, many with terrace access and all filled with natural light. Sit stand desks come standard, supporting ergonomic comfort. Focus rooms and quiet nooks offer privacy, while soundproof phone booths ensure confidential calls can happen without distraction. Meeting rooms are scaled for everything from daily standups to board-level presentations, with technology that allows users to plug in and start collaborating instantly.
One of the most distinctive features is the Social Media Room. More than a studio, it is a full content creation space with professional lighting, green screen capability, audio equipment, and an ergonomic control desk. In a neighbourhood full of creatives, influencers, and small businesses, this amenity responds directly to the cultural fabric of its surroundings. It signals that Kairos is built for today’s workforce but ready for tomorrow’s needs.
At the centre of the space, the café and lunchroom anchor the daily rhythm. During the workday, it functions as a casual meeting point, coffee stop, and social hub. After hours, it shifts seamlessly into a venue for community gatherings, tenant events, or private functions. Flexible furniture and custom lighting allow the atmosphere to transform effortlessly. The wraparound terrace extends this energy outdoors, creating rare moments for open-air working or alfresco socializing high above the street.
Wellness and inclusivity are deliberately woven into the experience. Touchless washrooms, a dedicated wellness room, showers, indoor bike parking, and accessible phone booths ensure the workplace supports the full spectrum of user needs. Acoustic treatments on ceilings and walls create a calm backdrop, while natural light and greenery reinforce a sense of ease that is often missing in coworking environments.
Behind the scenes, robust technology keeps everything running smoothly. High speed wired and wireless internet, seamless hybrid meeting tools, IT support, and the Kairos app for booking and connectivity allow members to spend more time working and less time troubleshooting. The recording studio adds an additional layer of digital readiness, aligning the space with current shifts in multimedia work.
Sustainability also guided key decisions. Where possible, existing furniture was repurposed from the developer’s inventory, and carbon neutral flooring solutions were selected. Colour coded wayfinding introduces subtle visual cues without overwhelming the design. These decisions reflect a mindful approach to resourcefulness and long term performance, ensuring the space remains adaptable as the needs of its community evolve.
Kairos stands as a new kind of coworking environment for Toronto. It combines the ease of hospitality with the functionality of a modern workplace, creating a destination that feels both elevated and approachable. Thoughtful, flexible, and deeply connected to its Liberty Village context, the space offers members more than desks and meeting rooms. It offers a workplace experience that supports how people want to work today while preparing them for what comes next.”
