Inside DPS Games’ New Guildford Office
Game development studio DPS Games hired workplace design firm Spectrum Workplace to design their new office in Guildford, England.
“Game development brings different disciplines together, and their workplaces need to accommodate different needs and working styles. At DPS Games in Guildford, Spectrum Workplace’s refurbishment explores that balance across a 35,000 sq ft studio.
Accommodating more than 200 people, it gives artists, engineers, designers and producers somewhere to cross paths beyond their immediate teams. Flexible furniture allows the space to shift between lunch, informal discussions and larger gatherings, with planting and bold finishes shaping its character. Specialist audio rooms accommodate recording, voiceover and gameplay testing, with acoustic separation protecting surrounding workspaces from disruption. Ceiling baffles and softer finishes also help manage sound across the wider studio. Alongside collaborative settings, quieter areas offer dimmable lighting and greater acoustic control, recognising that a stimulating environment for one person can be distracting for another. Delivered over 16 weeks while the studio remained operational, the refurbishment required carefully phased construction. The finished project illustrates a central challenge in creative workplace design: making room for collective energy while giving individuals the conditions to concentrate.”
