A Tour of Battery Ventures’ New San Francisco Office

Global technology-focused investment firm Battery Ventures recently hired architecture firm John Lum Architecture to design their new office in San Francisco, California.

“Battery Ventures wanted a space that would communicate their corporate culture while appealing to a broad range of clients, including young entrepreneurs seeking financing, and established blue-chip companies looking for support. They tapped boutique architecture firm, John Lum Architecture, to create an interior that speaks to stability and tradition while reflecting the forward-thinking of the partners. Located in the penthouse suite of a mid-rise in SOMA, the city’s latest tech hub, JLA designed a warm and inviting space that reflects a modern architectural vocabulary. Veering from a traditional corporate concept, the firm took a resimercial approach, layering in custom touches and natural elements.

A custom steel white reception desk balances artistic vision with pragmatism, informing clients that this technology-focused investment firm is solid yet willing to consider new ideas. Chiseled limestone is the backdrop, guiding visitors through the space. Three windowed private offices surround the perimeter. Their glass doors are shielded with wooden screens made from walnut. The screens play with light and shadow, filtering in daylight to the main spaces while keeping rooms private. Conference rooms are wired for full interactivity and midcentury modern furniture blends the serious with the hip.

To further build corporate identify, JLA integrated agile office components. The central reception area acts as impromptu gathering space and features a communal worktable and two glassed-in flex spaces for discreet conversations. The result is a sophisticated, welcoming office that conveys Battery Vetures’ value and mission,” says John Lum Architecture
